Changing stream in the MSc program

It is possible to change stream only once during the program. The deadline for making a request is the deadline to withdraw from a course with refund (cancellation). If the deadline is passed, the change will be applied for the following term.

To request a change of stream, you need to complete a short administrative request.

This change will impact several aspects of your file, as well as your tuition fees. Please see the section below for more details.

A change of stream will impact your program structure. Please consult your new program structure on HEC en ligne > Academic Progress once the change is done.

Resources

You can consult the supervised project webpage to get all the information you need concerning the registration and submission process, as well as guides and writing help tools.

It is your responsibility to find a supervised project mandate. Consult the supervised project Guidelines and Requirements to learn more.

Tuition fees

In the supervised project stream, tuition fees are calculated by credit.

Status

To have “full-time student” status, you must be enrolled in at least 9 course credits (MSc and preparatory courses combined) in the fall and winter terms, and 6 credits in the summer term.

A change of stream may impact your scholarships. Please contact sae.bourses@hec.ca for any questions.

International students

To carry out a supervised project in an organization, you must apply for a co-op work permit. Be aware that it can be very long to obtain. For more information on work permits, see Applying for a work co-op permit (internship or project) webpage.

Do not forget to inform the academic advisor of your specialization of the change.

Change from Supervised Project to Thesis

Program structure

A change of stream will impact your program structure. Please consult your new program structure on HEC en ligne > Academic Progress once the change is done.

It is recommended to take these two mandatory workshops during your first term in the thesis stream:

Resources

You can consult the thesis webpage to get all the information you need concerning the requirements and the milestones of the thesis, as well as guides and writing help tools.

Consult the thesis Guidelines and requirements to learn more.

Tuition fees

In the thesis stream, tuition fees are calculated as a flat fee. Your first term in the thesis stream always equates to the first term of the flat fee, even if you have already completed one or more terms in the MSc.

Students are automatically registered to the thesis activity every term (fall, winter, and summer) from their first term in the thesis stream, until the end of their studies. They must pay the associated fees whether they are taking courses or not.

Status

In the thesis stream, you have a “full-time student” status by default.

Scholarships

A change of stream may impact your scholarships. Please contact sae.bourses@hec.ca for any questions.

International students

For questions regarding your study permit and other immigration documents, see the International Students section of our website.

Do not forget to inform the academic advisor of your specialization of the change.
