CSR Challenge: an HEC Montréal team takes 1st place

An international case competition on the theme of corporate social responsibility

March 17, 2021

A team of HEC Montréal MBA students finished first in the CSR Challenge, an international bilingual case competition held every year by the School’s Association des étudiants du MBA (AEMBA).

The 2021 edition was held online on March 5 and 6.

The members of the winning team, 4 students in the francophone cohort, will share a cash prize of $6,000. They are:

Their team, named Blue Tree Consulting, was coached by Josée Desjardins, a 2018 HEC Montréal MBA graduate.

Gregory Bouzonville, Pedro-Paulo Castro-Grillo, Renaud Charest and Gregory Lynch.

This was the 12th edition of the CSR Challenge, open to full-time and part-time MBA students. Participants are asked to find solutions to different challenges faced by business leaders, with the goal of bettering their communities, promoting sustainability and addressing social concerns.

This year’s edition attracted 31 teams of MBA students from 23 universities in 9 countries: Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy, Egypt, France, Croatia and South Africa.

Participants had to solve 3 cases, the first one received 1 week before and the other 2 received during the 2 days of the event. For each case teams had to submit a written presentation and present their case to a jury of professionals and MBA graduates, followed by a question and answer period. Points were awarded according to an evaluation grid.

Organizing the CSR Challenge by the AEMBA and MBA students is also a big part of the experience offered by this major event. Once again this year, dozens of our students were involved as volunteers.
