Showcasing Interdisciplinary Expertise in Sustainable Transition
Sustainability transitions refer to “long-term, multi-dimensional, and fundamental transformation processes through which established socio-technical systems shift to more sustainable modes of production and consumption,” according to J. Markard, R. Raven, and B. Truffer (2012)*.
This transition involves economic, technological, social, and ecological processes and dynamics that require innovative—sometimes unprecedented—cross-sector collaboration, engaging a wide range of actors and sectors across society, including:
- Public sector (municipalities, regions, national governments, and international bodies)
- Private sector (startups, SMEs, large corporations, and social enterprises)
- Community sector (citizens, community groups, and civil society)
- Third sector (associations, non-profits, and NGOs)
“Transitions HEC Montréal supports organizations in addressing the challenges of the sustainable transition by transforming these issues into levers for progress—enabling informed decision-making and generating positive long-term impact. It places interdisciplinary research at the heart of action, mobilizing management sciences to strengthen and advance organizational practices. This dynamic allows scientific knowledge to inform practice, while real-world experience, in turn, fuels academic innovation.”
