Sylvain Sénécal receives Award for Teaching Excellence

The 2025 Jean Guertin Award for Teaching Excellence has been presented to Sylvain Sénécal for his outstanding teaching contribution throughout his career. This distinction is in addition to the Pierre Laurin Award for Research Excellence he received in 2023 for his exemplary scientific career and his contribution to the School’s renown.
Holding a master’s degree in management and a PhD in marketing from the School, this full professor in the Department of Marketing, co-founder and co-director of Tech3lab, and holder of the RBC Financial Group Chair of E-Commerce joined his alma mater as an assistant professor in 2004.
Personalized and inspirational teaching
Since then, he has taught about ten courses at all levels — from undergraduate to doctoral degrees, including master’s and EMBA — most of which have been created or co-developed by the digital marketing expert. He has also coordinated and conducted around forty training sessions at Executive Education HEC Montréal. Given such a variety of audiences, he strives to adapt his teaching material to each individual and on an almost annual basis, since his field of expertise is constantly evolving.
He is highly respected not only for his dynamic and relevant classroom presence, which is at the forefront of knowledge, but also for his availability. He employs various teaching methods to forge a harmonious link between theory, his own research and the professional environment. So, his goal is to offer learners a vision that is both innovative and practical by exposing them to the forefront of knowledge and the actual nature of organizations.
In addition to having co-authored several case studies, chapters and books, he has supervised or co-supervised more than 200 students for their master's thesis, supervised project or doctoral dissertation over the past 21 years, many of which have culminated in scientific papers.
