Jacques Robert appointed Professor Emeritus

After having received the School’s Engagement Award in December 2025, Jacques Robert has now been conferred the title of Professor Emeritus. This proclamation, highlighting his entire career and the significance of his contributions to HEC Montréal, will be made during the convocation ceremony on September 15, 2026.

Jacques Robert retired on December 31, 2024, after 23 years at HEC Montréal that were marked by sustained contributions to all the key aspects of professorship and more.

Recognized leadership in teaching innovation

In the field of Information Technology (IT) education, he has always endeavored to develop innovative teaching materials for enhancing the educational experience. He happens to be one of the inventors of ERPsim, the immersive business simulation used by more than 50,000 students every year in over 300 universities around the world.

He has co-authored numerous books and manuals, and played a decisive role as well in the creation and rollout of the international ERPsim competition. Furthermore, his achievements have been recognized through several prestigious honors, including the Majdi Najm Outstanding Service Award (2007), the Cidegef/FNEGE Educational Innovation Award (2014) and the SAP University Alliances Curriculum Award (2023).

High-quality research

Jacques Robert is also renowned for the quality and impact of his scientific output, particularly in the fields of auction theory, market design and IT. His work has been widely disseminated and cited, and has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Economic Theory, Econometrica, Journal of Applied Econometrics and Information & Management. He has secured, often in collaboration with colleagues, numerous research grants from various organizations, totaling over $5.5 million.

An exceptional commitment

He has contributed significantly to raising the profile of HEC Montréal, notably by ensuring the transfer of knowledge to the professional world and by fostering the development of partnerships between academia and industry.

As a man of integrity and commitment, he also took on strategic responsibilities within the School for much of his career: Director of two departments – IT and International Business – as well as the PhD Program and Direction de la valorisation des innovations pédagogiques, in addition to being Associate Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer. He has served on several boards of directors, including that of the French-language business management journal, Gestion, while also playing an active role in the Centre for Interuniversity Research and Analysis on Organizations (CIRANO).

His philanthropic commitment is also evident. In addition to annually funding doctoral scholarships in IT, he transferred his rights to ERPsim to the HEC Montréal Foundation in 2006, which now represents a contribution of over $5 million. In acknowledgement of this significant gesture, the Foundation appointed him to the Board of Governors and the Cercle du Directeur .
