Nicolas Vincent becomes Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada

April 24, 2026

Professor Nicolas Vincent from the Department of Applied Economics has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada. His appointment will be effective August 3, 2026.

In order to totally dedicate himself to the mission of Canada’s central bank, he will step down from the position he has held at HEC Montréal for nearly 20 years.

Pursuing his commitment

This appointment marks a continuation of his commitment to the Bank of Canada. In fact, Nicolas Vincent has served on the Bank’s Governing Council as an external Deputy Governor since 2023, bringing an academic perspective to monetary policy decisions. Until now, he has fulfilled this role while simultaneously continuing to teach at HEC Montréal.

In his role as full-time internal Deputy Governor, he will oversee the analysis of international economic developments and serve as the Bank’s G7 and G20 Deputy.

“I am delighted that Nicolas has decided to become a full-time member of the Governing Council. His deep knowledge of both macro- and microeconomics, extensive research background and outstanding communication skills will be invaluable as the Bank navigates a complex and challenging global and domestic economic environment.”
