International research: Professors Viviana Pilato and Melanie Robinson rewarded

August 24, 2023

Professors Viviana Pilato and Melanie Robinson received a certificate of excellence along with 8 other colleagues for their involvement in the creation of one of the 10 largest datasets for Canada, as part of the international research project Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE 2020).

Their colleagues are Pamela Lirio (Université de Montréal), Rick Cotton and Stacey Fitzsimmons (University of Victoria), Ariane Ollier-Malaterre (Université du Québec à Montréal), Margaret Schomaker (Université Laval), Ali Dastmalchian*, Carolyn Egri and Mila Lazarova (Simon Fraser University).

GLOBE 2020, which is the culmination of over 20 years of collaborative work, examines the relationships between societal culture, leadership, and organizational practices About 425 researchers took part in this large and comprehensive international study, which covers 144 countries. Based on the findings of the past two decades, the team focused on four questions:

  • To what extent have the cultures of the countries in the original GLOBE study changed? And what are the major societal drivers of culture change?
  • What is the relationship between national culture and antecedents of interpersonal trust in different countries?
  • What insights can be gained by expanding the number of countries mapped by the GLOBE project to include relatively unstudied countries in the Middle East and North Africa region?
  • How do leadership perceptions differ across genders and cultures?1
