On March 22, the Montréal Carabins women’s hockey team won the U SPORTS Canadian Championship in Elmira, Ontario by defeating the Concordia Stingers 5-2 in the final match.
This title, the Carabins’ first since 2016, also rounds off a historic season for their program, which saw three teams — women’s soccer, football and now women’s hockey — win the national championship in the same year, a first in the program’s history.
Two Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students from HEC Montréal were part of the winning team: defender Chloé Duchesneau and forward Léa Salem. Their presence attests to the prominent place occupied by the School’s female students in high-level university sports.
This championship also illustrates the daily realities faced by many female student athletes, who have to contend with exacting demands, both on the ice and in their studies. This title provides HEC Montréal with the opportunity to appreciate the commitment and rigour of its female students, who fully contribute to their team’s success on the national stage.
