Hélène-Desmarais Building wins another international architecture award

January 15, 2026

The Hélène-Desmarais Building at HEC Montréal has once again earned international recognition: last fall, it received an architecture award at the prestigious Architecture Madrid Awards (AMA), a distinction that celebrates the excellence of its design and the relevance of its architectural vision.

Presented by a jury of architecture and design professionals, this award highlights projects that stand out for the quality of their vision, their integration into the urban context, and the relevance of their uses. The 24,000 m² building was praised for its “architecture that combines institutional identity, openness to the city, and the creation of inspiring learning spaces.”

A distinctive architectural design

Designed by the firm Provencher_Roy, the Hélène-Desmarais Building, with its striking angles, features dynamic volumes, abundant natural light, and interior spaces that foster circulation, collaboration, and exchange.

Located in downtown Montréal, it serves as a true meeting point between the academic community, the business world, and the city, while asserting HEC Montréal’s institutional presence in this strategic area.

Multiple accolades

This latest recognition adds to a series of distinctions received since the building’s inauguration in 2023. Provencher_Roy notably won several awards at the 17th edition of the Grands Prix du Design. The building also earned an honourable mention at the International Architecture Awards, along with acknowledgements for its structure and positive environmental impact.

Winning this award at the AMA confirms the vision behind the Hélène-Desmarais Building: to provide infrastructure that reflects the School’s commitment to excellence, supports innovation, teaching, and research, and stands as a model of sustainable architecture in a historically rich sector.
