Passing of Serge Saucier

The members of the HEC Montréal community were saddened to learn of the passing of Serge Saucier in May 2025. He served on the HEC Montréal Board of Directors from 1982 and was its Chairman from 1987 to 2000. Serge Saucier was an HEC Montréal alumnus (1964) and he also taught at the School from 1965 to 1978.
Born in Montréal in 1943, he spent most of his career at Raymond Chabot Martin Paré (subsequently known as Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton). He rose through the ranks to the position of President and CEO, which he held from 1980 to 2001. Under his stewardship, this company became the leading accounting and administration services firm in Quebec.
Serge Saucier was involved in many other organizations, in administrative and leadership roles. He made his mark as President of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montréal.
Appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 1994, he was promoted to officer of this prestigious civil honour in 2001. He was also appointed Knight of the Ordre National du Québec (1992) and member of the Académie des Grands Montréalais (1996).
Serge Saucier firmly believed in the importance of training future leaders and the academic community acknowledged this commitment by conferring several honours upon him. The Université de Montréal presented him with its Bronze Medal and the Alumni Association’s Order of Merit. He also received the McGill Management Achievement Award and the Concordia University Award of Excellence.
In 2000, he was awarded an honorary PhD from HEC Montréal, in addition to being named a Distinguished Alumnus of the School.
