June 25, 2025
Professor Emeritus Louis Jacques Filion has been made a Distinguished Member of the Québec Order of Excellence in Education. The province’s highest distinction in education celebrates his renewed commitment to innovating, developing, supporting and spreading entrepreneurship education both in Quebec and around the world. It also highlights Professor Filion’s considerable and outstanding body of work, which includes both research and academic publications on the subject of entrepreneurship.
The professor held the Rogers-J.-A.-Bombardier Chair of Entrepreneurship from 1995 to 2016 and published some twenty pedagogical books to support new courses that he had developed. He also initiated the process leading to the creation of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at HEC Montréal in 2015.

Quebec Minister of Higher Education Pascale Déry, Professor Emeritus Louis Jacques Filion and Quebec Minister of Education Bernard Drainville.
“We should be grateful to the Government of Quebec for having created an Order of Excellence in Education. It is a brilliant way of acknowledging the efforts of individuals who have gone above and beyond usual standards to break new ground in their field. Most of us have done this to provide our students with benchmarks to take their ideas forward, achieve more and make better contributions to society. This is also our greatest reward.”
The ceremony, which was presided over by Pascale Déry, Minister of Higher Education, and Bernard Drainville, Minister of Education, was held at the Quebec National Assembly on June 10, 2025. Twenty-four of the submitted applications were finally selected, including only 5 for Distinguished Membership. Louis Jacques Filion is now among the 38 winners who have received this title since the Order was created in 2018.
