Two HEC Montréal students stand out at a tax symposium

August 31, 2022

Raphaël Clément and Xavier Drolet did the School proud at the latest Université de Laval Symposium en fiscalité, bringing home the 2nd-place Jury award and a participation award.

Both are 2021 graduates from the HEC Montréal Master of Laws (LL.M.) – Taxation program.

Participants at the event on July 8 had to present a research topic they had worked on during their graduate studies in taxation.

The talk given by Raphaël Clément, based on his Master’s thesis under the supervision of Professor Jean-Pierre Vidal, dealt with ways of proving international tax evasion. His award earned him a $2,450 prize.

Xavier Drolet’s presentation was based on his essay on potential planning for income splitting in a period of uncertainty, which had been supervised by Sylvie Ouellette, Full-Time Lecturer and academic manager for the graduate taxation program. His participation award came with a prize of $500.
