HEC Montréal creates a research chair in sustainable finance

December 15, 2022

HEC Montréal is pleased to announce that it has created a research Chair in Sustainable Finance, to be held by Professor Iwan Meier, of the Department of Finance.

The Chair’s mission will be to develop cutting-edge knowledge in sustainable finance, train experts in this field and facilitate knowledge transfer to the business community. Its research will focus on the impact of taking environmental, social and governance (ESG) concerns into account on investment performance and investors’ decision making.

Developing know-how to achieve a better balance between economic and ecological development is one of the School’s priorities. Training responsible leaders is at the heart of its mission, and it strives to provide additional resources to support organizations in their transition toward more sustainable management approaches.

The creation of this Chair is also in line with the partnership between HEC Montréal and the University of Oxford. The 2 universities have launched an initiative entitled Measuring Beyond, aimed at developing knowledge relating to the measurement of companies’ ESG performance.
