• Check your course syllabus to find out your exam details. 
• Check the date, time, and room for your exam in HEC en ligne.
• Check the authorized documentation.
• Make sure you have all the required materials: a working computer, an approved calculator, a pencil, etc.
• Please arrive at least 10 minutes early to have your identity and authorized documentation (if applicable) verified. You will not be allowed into the room if you are more than 45 minutes late.

Supervision guidelines

• Please remain silent during the exam.
• Do not leave the exam room unless it is an emergency. In that case, a supervisor will accompany you.
• Do not eat during the exam.
• Place any beverage in an airtight bottle and set it on the floor to prevent spills.

Permitted and prohibited items

• Do not use a smart watch, smart glasses, or a cell phone. These devices must be turned off and kept inside your bag. The mere possession of an unauthorized electronic device will automatically result in a report to the Academic Violation Committee and, at a minimum, a failing grade on the exam.
• If your exam is administered in person on a computer, use no more than two electronic devices, excluding cell phones, smart watches, and smart glasses. Make sure your devices are fully charged, since the exam rooms are not equipped to plug in multiple devices.
• You may use a translation dictionary in print format for paper-based exams and in digital format for computer-based exams.

Reporting the problem

If your instructor has requested support through a Teams chat, your assistant will add you to a Teams group before the exam. You will receive a notification in Teams and via email.

• If you encounter a technical problem, report it immediately by chatting privately with this person.
• If you have trouble reaching your assistant in Teams, you can ask the supervisors in the room for assistance.
• If you want to avoid any interruptions, you can close Teams or turn off notifications. The public chat function will also be disabled so as not to distract you.

Making an exam interruption request

If a technical problem prevents you from completing or submitting a midterm or final exam on a computer before the scheduled end time, please fill out the interruption form no later than one hour after the end of the exam:

• Log in to the portal.
• Fill out the “Notice of Exam Interruption” form.
• Download the PDF file and upload it to HEC en ligne.

If your request is approved

In accordance with the Academic Rules and Regulations (PDF, 327 KB), if your request is deemed admissible:

• Midterm exam: The final exam grade will replace the midterm grade.
• Final exam: the exam will be deferred to the next term during which the course is offered. The Registrar's Office will contact you to provide information about your rescheduled exam.

An absence means that you are unable to take the exam. Any absence will result in a grade of "0" unless there is a valid reason. A valid reason is a situation beyond your control, such as force majeure, an unforeseeable event, or illness. For all absences, you may be required to provide supporting documents attesting to your inability to attend on the scheduled exam date.

Filling out a notice of absence

Fill out the “Notice of Absence from an Exam” form on the portal, then upload the PDF file to HEC en ligne no later than five days after the exam date. You will receive confirmation at your HEC Montréal email address within two to three weeks.

If your request is approved

In accordance with the Academic Rules and Regulations (PDF, 327 KB), if your request is approved, the Registrar’s Office will notify your instructor of your absence, and the following policy will be applied:

• Midterm exam: The grade will be considered the same as that of the final exam.
• Final exam: The exam will be deferred to the next term during which the course is offered. The Registrar's Office will contact you to provide information about your rescheduled exam.

You must complete the Religious Accommodation Form to request a postponement of a midterm or final exam. The form must be completed no later than two weeks before your exam. However, we recommend that you fill it out at the beginning of the term to help expedite the processing of your request.

The Registrar’s Office will analyze your request and contact you afterwards. Only one form must be filled out for the entire duration of your studies.
