Providing reliable and unified data to the scientific community

This is the goal of Decision Sciences Professor, David Ardia, who along with Emanuele Guidotti from the Université de Neuchâtel, created the COVID-19 Data Hub platform.

Existing databases do not meet the needs of researchers

• Many databases have sprung up to track the status of COVID-19 cases around the world, but they vary in reliability and format. They often revolve around only one region or country.

Using data science to create a more efficient platform

• Every hour, algorithms automatically download the most recent data from official sources covering many countries around the world, ensure their integrity, and merge them into a single database.
• The interface allows members of the data scientist community to connect new data sources to the algorithms and to include other variables (e.g., demographics and mobility).
• Access to such standardized information could, for example, pave the way for researchers to link the number of cases of the coronavirus disease to certain socioeconomic factors.
