HEC Montréal offers its first MOOC in Spanish

March 29, 2022

HEC Montréal is launching its first-ever MOOC – or massive open online course – in Spanish: Introducción a la gestión de energía con RETScreen. It is an adaptation of the course Introduction to Energy Management Powered by RETScreen, a MOOC already offered in French and English on the digital learning platform edX

Overall, the course is designed to help companies address climate change through effective energy management. The course is built around the use of the RETScreen Expert software, a tool developed by the Government of Canada that supports clean energy decision-making.

The original course, launched in June 2021, has been a resounding success, generating over 3,800 registrations worldwide in 9 months. The Spanish market for this new course is very promising, as there are approximately 750,000 RETScreen users worldwide, many of whom are in Latin America.

"Training in three languages is already a reality at HEC Montréal in certain programs, notably the Bachelor of Business Administration. Offering this MOOC in Spanish is therefore a natural choice for us to continue to expand our offer in this direction, and to make energy management accessible to a maximum number of people. In fact, we are currently working on the creation of a second course on this subject in collaboration with RETScreen and it will be available in all 3 languages as well," commented Jacques Robert, Full Professor and Director of the Pedagogical Innovation Transfer Office.
