Over $1.3 million in research grants to PhD students and postdoctoral fellows

Granting agencies and 3 of their partners promoting research in Canada awarded research grants to 27 PhD students and 8 postdoctoral fellows at the School, for a total of $1.369 million in 2019–2020. They were selected by different expert committees, based on the quality of their academic records and their research potential.
SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGS D) and Doctoral Fellowships (DFP)
This competition, by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), is open to all doctoral students in Canada and is among the most competitive. Candidates must have an exemplary academic record and very high research potential.

Doctoral research scholarship – Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE)
This scholarship program is managed by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) and funded by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MEES).
The objective of these scholarships is to support the internationalization of research activities at Quebec's institutions of higher education and to attract the top foreign researchers and students.

IVADO and Fin-ML scholarships and fellowships
Six HEC Montréal PhD students were chosen to receive Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO) or Fin-ML scholarships, in recognition of their excellent academic results and to support their research, particularly in machine learning in quantitative finance and business analytics.
Two postdoctoral fellows also received IVADO support to finance their postdoctoral research in the field of data science.

Mitacs internships and fellowships
Mitacs Accelerate is Canada’s most extensive research internship program. It allows graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and university professors to extend the scope of their research by teaming up with various partners, including private companies and non-profit organizations.
All in all, 14 PhD students received funding to carry out their research. At the postdoc level, 6 HEC Montréal fellows received financial support.
