HEC Montréal is to receive a major subsidy from the federal and provincial governments, of $4.875 million in all, to upgrade its telecommunications network.

With this support, the School will now be able to install a new high-capacity network, including new fibre optics and modernized transmission components.

The improved network will better respond to teaching and research needs, as they require high transmission speeds and carry huge amounts of data. Of the $4.875 million, $1,922 million comes from the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund, a federal program. The other $2,953 million is from the Quebec government.

The Fund provides up to $2 billion for infrastructure projects at post-secondary institutions across Canada, as well as industry-relevant training facilities at colleges and polytechnic institutions.

A total of 302 projects are being funded across Canada.
