January 27, 2026

The Université de Montréal and the cluster it forms with HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal have ranked 9th worldwide and 3rd in Canada for artificial intelligence (AI) research, according to the 2025 Shanghai Ranking.

The Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities – Global Ranking of Academic Subjects assesses universities’ performance across 57 disciplines. This year marks the first time that AI has been included as a subject area.

The ranking measures both the volume and quality of publications, as well as citation impact. It also evaluates international collaborations and the awards or prestigious positions held by members of the faculty.

HEC Montréal and its partners were also highly ranked in the Business Administration and Management categories, placing 2nd in Canada in both fields and 42nd and 45th worldwide, respectively.
