To help promote Canadian excellence in artificial intelligence (AI), the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) has set up six new Canada CIFAR AI Chairs, one of which will be held by Assistant Professor Eva Portelance.
Eva Portelance, who is affiliated with Mila and holds a PhD in Computational Linguistics from Stanford University, will use her research to create a dialogue between AI and cognitive science. She will leverage her knowledge of human language development to improve AI systems and will use AI models to advance theories on human learning and cognition.
It should be noted that the Canada CIFAR AI Chairs program is funded by the federal government, as part of Canada’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy: AI for All.
