An international victory in quantitative methods

November 6, 2026

A student team comprising Andrew Sutcliffe and Emna Zghal from HEC Montréal, and Owen Mao from TUM School of Management took first place in the QTEM (Quantitative Techniques for Economics and Management) network case competition – the QTEM Data Challenge – held at the LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome. Andrew Sutcliffe also received the Best Speaker Award.

The QTEM Data Challenge Final brought together 143 students from 23 countries to tackle a real-world business challenge under the theme “Unveiling Cartier’s Hidden Potential”. Working in international teams, participants combined analytical skills, creativity, and collaboration to identify new growth opportunities for Cartier.

This competition is part of the QTEM certification program, offered to students following certain master’s programs to help develop their skills in analytical and quantitative techniques in order to support decision-making in an international context. This program also provides them with the opportunity to benefit from a semester abroad at a partner university and to do an internship in Montréal or abroad.
