November 25, 2025
The School is in the spotlight for the quality and influence of its research in two recently published rankings.
Financial Times Research Insights 2025
HEC Montréal is ranked 44th in the world and 3rd in Canada in this ranking, a jump of more than 20 places compared to 2024. Only about 50 business schools around the world, including just 4 in Canada, have made it into this year’s rankings.
Among other things, this list focuses on articles published in the 50 journals recognized by the Financial Times (FT50) and their measured impact over the past five years, based on the following indicators and weighting:
- Influence within the academic community: number of citations of these articles (Scite) – 16%
- Societal importance: extent of alignment of a publication with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (source: OpenAlex Aurora SDG Dashboard) – 12%
- Coverage in traditional and social media (Digital Science’s Altmetric attention score) – 16%
- Impact outside the academic community: number of citations in government consultation documents (Overton) – 16%
- Impact outside the academic community: number of academic paper downloads by government or private agencies (SSRN) – 16%
Another indicator concerns management case publications over the past seven years:
- Impact on teaching: number of authors who have written cases frequently used by other institutions (cases published by Case Centre, Harvard or Ivey) – 12%.
It is worth noting that HEC Montréal has performed particularly well in this area, ranking 12th in the world.
Finally, there is one last indicator on productivity:
- Number of articles in FT50 journals divided by the number of full-time researchers in the institution – 12%
