Over $1.4 million in research scholarships to Master’s and Bachelor’s students

2021-2022 Academic Year

In 2021-20212, 101 Master’s, DESS and Bachelor’s students at HEC Montréal received $1,400,501 in research scholarships from granting agencies and other partner agencies promoting research in Canada. Furthermore, 9 scholarships were awarded to undergraduate students from other universities who had completed their research internship at HEC Montréal. The total amount awarded to these 110 students was $1,454,501.

The recipients were selected by juries of experts, based on the quality of their academic records and their research potential.

 

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) awarded scholarships to 2 HEC Montréal students conducting research internships as part of their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. Note that 9 more undergraduate students from other Quebec universities also received these scholarships to help some of our professors as part of NSERC undergraduate research internships.

Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s level (CGS M)

Two granting agencies, NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) and SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) awarded 12 scholarships last year through the CGS M program. The selected recipients are Master’s students in the thesis track.

FRQ Master’s research scholarships

The Fonds de recherche du Québec awards scholarships to support and promote excellence in research in various fields: nature and technologies (FRQNT), health (FRQS) and society and culture (FRQSC). In 2021-2022, 5 students were awarded FRQ research scholarships. These scholarships are valid for a maximum of 2 years.

Fin-ML scholarships

The scholarships awarded by the Fin-ML network are intended to support the development of the next generation in the field of innovative technologies for machine learning in quantitative finance and business analytics.

Last year, 2 Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) students and 13 Master’s (MSc) students obtained Fin-ML Foncer scholarships.

Thanks to Mitacs, a national organization, students are eligible for scholarships to carry out various types of projects as research interns in private-sector companies and non-profit organizations and at universities.

In 2021–2022, these programs enabled 66 HEC Montréal Bachelor’s and Master’s students to benefit from internships.
