Michel Patry’s Appointment as HEC Montréal Director Renewed

November 16, 2010

Hélène Desmarais, Chair of the Board of Directors of HEC Montréal, is pleased to announce that Michel Patry's appointment as Director of the School has been renewed. His second four-year term will begin effective July 1, 2011.

The Board members unanimously voted to appoint Professor Patry for a second term at their meeting on November 11. Earlier this fall, he presented a report on his first term and his plans for the second four-year term to the faculty assembly, as stipulated in the Regulations concerning the Director of HEC Montréal.

The faculty members were then invited to cast a straw vote on the renewal of Professor Patry’s appointment, the results of which were conveyed to the Board of Directors. All in all, 89.5% of faculty members were in favour of granting him a second term.

A full professor with the Institute of Applied Economics, Michel Patry joined the HEC Montréal faculty in 1983. He has held a number of senior administrative positions at the School, including Associate Director, Academic Affairs and Strategic Planning, Director of the PhD in Administration program and Research Director. Before beginning his first term at the helm of HEC Montréal, on September 1, 2006, he was President and CEO of CIRANO, a major interuniversity research, liaison and knowledge transfer centre for organizational analysis.

Professor Patry sits on several boards in Canada and abroad, including those of the Université de Montréal, the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ), the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, the Canadian Federation of Business School Deans, AACSB International and the Global Foundation for Management Education.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of British Columbia, and is an expert in the economics of organizations and regulation.
