We will adopt a systemic approach which addresses the ontological and axiological foundations, the methodological issues in their impact on theoretical developments in the Operations Management field and new approaches and trends in Operations Management. We will discuss both the manufacturing sector and the services sector, and we will focus on strategic, tactical, and operational issues of Operations Management in order to identify the particularities of this field and its practice.

We will review the classic literature and the recent research developments pertaining to supply chain management (SCM) including quantitative (survey and secondary data research), qualitative (case studies) and conceptual papers. Articles using mathematical modeling and studies of applied operations research techniques will not be covered. Supply chain management being a wide-ranging field, theoretical lens from other areas of research will often be discussed within the seminar (e.g., resource-based view of the firm, relational view, and transaction cost economics). A particular emphasis will be given to methodological challenges of SCM empirical research. The objective is to help participants to develop critical and creative thinking that fosters rigorous and innovative empirical research in SCM.

Degree required

You must hold a master’s degree in a field related to the desired program or a degree deemed equivalent by the program administration.

Minimum GPA

You must have earned GPA of at least 3.0 out of 4.3.

If the university in which you completed the master's degree requires a higher GPA for admission to a doctoral program, this is the average to take into account.
