Step 1 – Get your supporting documents ready

Supporting Documents

Copies of official transcripts

Educated anywhere in Canada

  • Transcripts must include all grades up to the most recent, including of unfinished programs and courses taken as part of academic exchanges.
  • Not required for studies done at HEC Montréal.

Other education systems

  • Transcripts from all years of undergraduate studies and graduate studies if you have completed any.
  • Documents should be scanned in vertical orientation (portrait) and consolidated into a single PDF document in chronological order.

You also need to provide copies of university diplomas, if obtained.


Proof of compliance with language requirements

You must show proof that you meet our language requirements.

  • Collegial studies (CEGEP): No proof of compliance to provide.
  • Others studies or test : Copies of official transcripts or test score. The official scores on tests taken outside of HEC Montréal must be transmitted directly by the organization responsible.

Letters of recommendation

You must request at least two letters of recommendation, preferably from professors or, if not possible, from people of your workplace.


Motivational letter

You must submit a motivational letter including answers to the following questions. Each answer, typed on the computer, must not exceed one page. Suggested format: 12 point Arial type, 1.5 line spacing.

  • Choice of program
    • What professional and intellectual concerns motivate you to pursue Master’s-level studies in Administration? Please explain your choice of specialization.
  • Career plan
    • What type of job do you think you will have after completing your Master’s in Administration (e.g. what type of company, positions and responsibilities)?
  • Fields of interest
    • What are your fields of interest, for research or your supervised project?
  • Work experience (optional)
    • Briefly explain any work experience you may have if it is relevant for your admission application.

Official scores on GMAT, TAGE MAGE or GRE tests

  • Only required for candidates who studied abroad.
  • Not required for candidates who have completed at least 45 undergraduate credits in Canada or at least 30 graduate credits in Canada at the time of their application.

Optional documents

  • Proof of professional titles (order, association, etc.), if applicable.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • You may also specify a second choice of specialization by completing this form. Please check whether you can seek admission in the desired term for this specialization. This second choice will only be considered if you are not selected for your first one.

You must provide the following documents:

  • valid certificate of Indian status issued by the federal government of Canada.
  • valid Inuit status card issued by the Makivik Corporation.

Canadian citizen born in Quebec

You must provide the following document:

  • birth certificate issued by Directeur de l'état civil with your place of birth, and your father’s and mother’s full names (long-form certificate only).

Canadian citizen born outside Quebec

You must provide the following documents:

  • Your birth certificate printed in one of the two official languages of Canada (English or French). If it is printed in another language, it must be translated by a certified translator into either English or in French. The document must contain the following information:
    • Your legal name
    • Your first and middle names
    • Your sex
    • Your birth place (city and country)
    • Your birth date
    • Your parents’ first and last names

Canadian citizen born outside Canada

You must provide the following documents:

  • Your birth certificate printed in one of the two official languages of Canada (English or French). If it is printed in another language, it must be translated by a certified translator into either English or in French. The document must contain the following information:
    • Your legal name
    • Your first and middle names
    • Your sex
    • Your birth place (city and country)
    • Your birth date
    • Your parents’ first and last names
  • both sides of your Canadian citizenship certificate or card.
  • Québec Selection Certificate (if applicable).
    If you do not have that certificate and you are a Canadian citizen born outside of Canada, complete the Attestation of Québec Resident Status.

When applying

  • valid passport.

When you arrive

  • Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), signed and posted by an Immigration Québec officer.
  • Student permit, delivered by Immigration Canada.

French belgian

You must provide the following documents:

When applying

  • Your birth certificate printed in one of the two official languages of Canada (English or French). If it is printed in another language, it must be translated by a certified translator into either English or in French. The document must contain the following information:
    • Your legal name
    • Your first and middle names
    • Your sex
    • Your birth place (city and country)
    • Your birth date
    • Your parents’ first and last names
  • Valid passport of the Kingdom of Belgium.
  • A copy of your status card validating your Belgian francophone identity OR your certificate of higher secondary education or your bachelor’s or master’s diploma delivered by a compulsory educational institution or a higher education institution under the authority or financed by the French Community of Belgium.

When you arrive

  • Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ), signed and posted by an Immigration Québec officer.
  • Student permit, delivered by Immigration Canada.

Diplomatic visa

You must provide the following documents:

  • Your birth certificate printed in one of the two official languages of Canada (English or French). If it is printed in another language, it must be translated by a certified translator into either English or in French. The document must contain the following information:
    • Your legal name
    • Your first and middle names
    • Your sex
    • Your birth place (city and country)
    • Your birth date
    • Your parents’ first and last names
  • letter of the protocole of the government of Québec.
  • Canada diplomatic visa.
  • valid passeport.
