Over $772,000 in research scholarships to bachelor’s and master’s students

In 2023-2024, 43 Master’s, DESS and Bachelor’s students at HEC Montréal received $772,501 in research scholarships from granting agencies and other partner agencies promoting research in Canada. Furthermore, 4 scholarships were awarded to undergraduate students from other universities who had completed their research internship at HEC Montréal.
The total amount awarded to these 47 students was $802,501.
The recipients were selected by juries of experts, based on the quality of their academic records and their research potential.
NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA)
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) awarded scholarships to two HEC Montréal students conducting research internships as part of their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. Four more undergraduate students from other Quebec universities (Université de Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal) also received these scholarships to help some of our professors as part of NSERC undergraduate research internships.

FRQNT Supplements of the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards (BPCA)
These are supplements of the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards – USRA (BPCA). The purpose of the USRAs is to generate interest in research in natural sciences and engineering, encourage the undertaking of graduate studies, and pursue a research career in these fields.

Canada Graduate Scholarships – Master’s Level (CGS M)
Two granting agencies, NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council) and SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) awarded eight scholarships last year through the CGS M program. The selected recipients are Master’s students in the thesis track.

Master’s Research Scholarship – Merit Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE)
This scholarship program is managed by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) and funded by the ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur du Québec (MEES).
The objective of these scholarships is to support the internationalization of research activities at Quebec’s institutions of higher education and to attract the top foreign researchers and students.

FRQ Master’s Research Scholarships
The Fonds de recherche du Québec awards scholarships to support and promote excellence in research in various fields: nature and technologies (FRQNT), health (FRQS) and society and culture (FRQSC). In 2023-2024, one student was awarded a FRQ research scholarship. These scholarships are valid for a maximum of 2 years.

Fin-ML Scholarships
The scholarships awarded by the Fin-ML network are intended to support the development of the next generation in the field of innovative technologies for machine learning in quantitative finance and business analytics.

Mitacs Scholarships
Thanks to Mitacs, a national organization, students are eligible for scholarships to carry out various types of projects as research interns in private-sector companies and non-profit organizations and at universities.
In 2023-2024, these programs enabled 19 HEC Montréal Bachelor’s and Master’s students to benefit from internships.
