Nearly $1 million in research scholarships to Master’s and Bachelor’s students

2019–2020 academic year

In 2019–2020, 68 Master’s and Bachelor’s students at HEC Montréal received $983,833 in research scholarships from granting agencies and 3 of their partners promoting research in Canada.

They were selected by juries of experts, based on the quality of their academic records and their research potential.

 

NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards and FRQNT supplements (USRA and BPCA)

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) awarded scholarships to three HEC Montréal students conducting research internships as part of their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. Each award recipient also received a supplement from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT) to help complete the internship. Note that 7 students from other Quebec universities also helped some of our professors as part of NSERC undergraduate research internships.

The Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC) awards this scholarship to Master’s students in the thesis track. The scholarship is renewable for up to 6 consecutive terms.

Bourses Frontenac (FRQNT)

The Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT), which is responsible for administering this scholarship competition on behalf of the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie du Québec (MRIF) and the Ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères de la République française (MEAE), awarded Frontenac scholarships to 2 HEC Montréal students. The goal of the program is to make it easier for Quebec and French students to go abroad, by funding a stay of at least 3 months at a university in France or Quebec..

IVADO and FIN-ML scholarships

Every year, the Institute for Data Valorization (IVADO) awards several scholarships to support the development of undergraduate and graduate students’ research skills, for those specializing in the field of data science. The scholarships awarded by the Fin-ML network are intended to support the development of the next generation in the field of innovative technologies for machine learning in quantitative finance and business analytics.

Last year, 2 BBA students at HEC Montréal received an Introduction to Research scholarships from IVADO to complete research internships.

Nine Master’s students obtained IVADO MSc Excellence scholarships or scholarships to take part in the Fin-ML CREATE program.

Mitacs scholarships

Thanks to Mitacs, a national organization, Master’s students are eligible for scholarships to carry out various types of projects as research interns in private-sector companies and non-profit organizations and at universities.

In 2019–2020, these programs enabled 54 HEC Montréal students to benefit from internships.
