The only university program of its kind offered in Québec, HEC Montréal’s Graduate Microprogram in Contemporary Philanthropy will be offered starting in fall 2026. Designed to address the current needs of a rapidly evolving sector, it provides specialized training that combines academic rigour with a strong grounding in the realities of the philanthropic field.
Delivered through three courses totaling nine credits, the microprogram enables participants to acquire essential knowledge in taxation, management and marketing, all of which are critical to effective professional practice in philanthropy. The program places particular emphasis on philanthropic development, community engagement, tax-related issues, and database analysis.
True to HEC Montréal’s pedagogical approach, the program focuses on learning that is closely linked to professional practice. Course content is enriched through guest lectures, site visits, and meetings with charitable organizations active in sectors such as culture, health, education and social services.
Offered part time at the Hélène-Desmarais Building in downtown Montréal, the microprogram includes daytime and evening courses, some of which are delivered in hybrid format, combining in-person and online instruction. This flexibility is designed to support the balance between studies, professional life and personal commitments.
Successful completion of the microprogram leads to a graduate-level attestation and provides, under certain conditions, access to the Graduate Diploma in Management – Cultural Organizations, followed by the Master’s in Management of Cultural Organizations. It thus offers a pathway to more advanced university studies for those wishing to continue their academic journey.
