Student Business Strategy Competition: Our students finish in the top three

Alberta International Business Competition

November 27, 2019

The four students from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) representing HEC Montréal at the Alberta International Business Competition 2019 (AIBC) performed very well at this international student business strategy competition.

Philippe Proulx-Rocray, Nicolas Richard, Daphney Laroche and Laurence Medina-Brunet came in third out of a dozen universities from various parts of the world.

The competition was held in Jasper, Alberta, from the 10th to the 15th of November. Participating teams were asked to solve two business cases – one 5-hour case and one 30-hour case – using sustainable, realistic and applicable strategies. Those strategies were also to allow the company to grow.

The 30-hour case involved The Canadian Brewhouse restaurant chain. Participants were asked to present short- and long-term strategies for recruiting and retaining top talent, primarily for management positions.

The HEC Montréal team distinguished itself by the quality of the strategies put forward and of their presentations, the clarity and professionalism of which were underlined.

This team was coached by Professor René Gendreau.
