Research Ethics Board

The mission of the Research Ethics Board (REB) is to design and implement a policy that complies with the requirements of Canada’s three granting agencies: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).

As part of this mission, the REB is responsible for reviewing all research projects involving humans conducted by professors, researchers and Ph.D. or M.Sc. students. The REB must ensure that the persons participating in research projects conducted at the School do so voluntarily and with full consent and, most importantly, that they are given all the necessary information to make an informed decision. The REB’s decisions are based on the minimal requirements set out in the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans. More broadly, the REB’s mission includes informing professors, researchers and students and making them more aware of the importance of research ethics.
