Applying for an Electronic Travel Authorization

Citizens from certain countries need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to enter Canada.

The eTA is issued automatically with the initial study permit. It is valid for five years or until your passport expires.

Renewing your eTA is not mandatory if you do not need to leave Canada and return by air. However, we recommend renewing it so that you remain free to travel in the event of an emergency.
