FAQ
Residence Rules (PDF) (in French only)
How long is my lease?
The lease is valid for nine (9) months, from August 14, 2026, to May 15, 2027. It is possible to extend the lease for a maximum period of one month for a fee based on the current rate.
How does rent payment work?
Rent is due on the 14th day of each month. It is your responsibility to make sure that HEC Montréal receives the monthly payments on the scheduled date. You will not receive a reminder to pay. Payments can be made using the same methods that are typically available to HEC Montréal students: online through your Canadian financial institution or by international wire transfer.
Do I have to clean the apartment before I leave?
An inspection will be carried out upon your arrival and departure. At the end of the lease, you agree to return the premises to the condition in which you found them upon your arrival. This means you will need to remove all your belongings and clean both private and shared spaces. Fees will be charged if the premises are not returned to their original condition (e.g., dirty, property damage, missing items, or inadequate repairs).
Can I decorate my apartment?
You may display photos or posters, but they must be hung using reusable, clean adhesive that does not damage the surfaces. Messages, images, or decorations that are obscene, sexist, racist, or discriminatory will not be tolerated. No posters are allowed in common areas or on doors.
Can I make a few changes to my apartment?
You can, of course, personalize your space, but you cannot replace or add furniture, or carry out any work such as painting, drilling, or various electrical or network installation.
Can I smoke in my apartment?
It is prohibited to smoke or use an e-cigarette on the premises of the residence. This rule applies under all circumstances in private or shared spaces, common areas, balconies, and outdoor areas.
Can I have guests?
You can have guests at the residence, but only when you are present.
