New partnership between Ina EXPERT and HEC Montréal

Tuesday October 9, 2012

Cannes, France, October 9, 2012 - At MIPCOM, the world’s entertainment content market, in Cannes, HEC Montréal and the French Institut national de l’audiovisuel (INA) officially announced a partnership between the HEC Montréal Media Centre and Ina EXPERT, the higher education, vocational training and research branch of INA. The partners will be jointly organizing meetings, seminars, lectures, forums and workshops.

The first joint initiative, in 2013, will consist of a 10-day training seminar intended to encourage, facilitate and develop Franco-Canadian co-production projects. It will shed light on funding mechanisms, trends in business models, opportunities and legal considerations. Co-production possibilities in different television genres will be explored. The seminar will be held in co-operation with the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), a government agency whose mission is to promote and support the establishment and development of Québec cultural enterprises, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) which champions the creation and promotion of innovative Canadian content for current and emerging platforms through financial support and industry research, the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée (CNC) and Télévision France Internationale (TVFI).

Sylvain Lafrance, Director of the Media Centre at HEC Montréal, is delighted with this new alliance. “The trend these days is toward sharing knowledge and joint research by recognized organizations, like HEC Montréal and INA. My colleagues at HEC Montréal are just as enthusiastic as I am at the idea of helping to train leaders in this sector. In the long run we hope they will come from all parts of the French-speaking world.”

Mathieu Gallet, INA Chairman and CEO, says he is very pleased at this association between the Institute and the newly created Centre at HEC Montréal. “This partnership illustrates Ina EXPERT’s strategy of international deployment and its goal of playing a major role in training, in the areas of both techno-artistic and managerial skills.”
