Description

This course is intended for all doctoral students that are interested in strategy and would like to learn more about the different theoretical approaches and the debates that shape the field.

By addressing phenomena studied in the strategy field, the students will be exposed to more fundamental theories as well as contemporary developments in strategy research. After an introduction into strategy as a concept, topics cover the role of the external and internal environment of a firm in strategy making, corporate governance, and selected market and non-market strategy choices.

Themes covered

Different perspectives on strategy
The influence of the institutional and industrial environment on a firm's strategic behavior.
The internal environment of the firm and strategy-making (covering topics such as resources and (dynamic) capabilities of a firm the management team and the CEO strategic planning)
The relevance of corporate governance (covering topics such as board of directors)
Market and non-market strategies
