This course covers the entire portfolio management process. As a capstone course, it integrates and synthesizes foundational concepts to build true expertise in the field. Through real-time simulated portfolio management, students apply the concepts learned and demonstrate their expertise.
This capstone course integrates and deepens the concepts acquired throughout the Bachelor's program. It builds directly on the concepts presented in the prerequisite course FINA 20201A (Investments), while bridging other subjects such as FINA 20210A (Options and Futures), FINA 20208A (Management of Financial Institutions), FINA 20219A (Alternative Investments), FINA 20298A (Trading in Financial Markets), as well as topics in ethics, economics, and financial mathematics.
Topics covered include, among others, the practical aspects of portfolio management for individual and institutional investors, modern portfolio theory, management styles and strategies, behavioral finance, risk factor management, portfolio construction concepts, and performance evaluation.
As part of a group project, students must develop an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) for a fictitious client and manage his portfolio in a real-time simulation throughout the term.
