Description
Corporate control has changed during the 20th century giving increasing power to accountants. Today accountants face new challenges that could impact their place in the organization. The course offers an overview of theoretical frameworks and actors of control to better understand this phenomenon.
This course is divided into three sections.
1. Foundations of control
What is control? This section will discuss the types of control, the levels of control, the formalization of controls, the uses of controls and costs as a form of controls.
2. Theoretical and methodological approaches
How do we understand and explain the phenomena of control? This section presents and discusses the main theoretical approaches used for management control research (contingency, economic agency and transaction costs, psychological, institutional and critical).
3. Actors and contexts
Who is exerting control and in what context? This section presents the actors of control (accountants, controllers, stakeholders) as well as the specific problems faced by the accounting profession related to the rise of business intelligence (Big Data, artificial intelligence), gender, social and environmental standards, and public and nonprofit organizations.

Description
This seminar aims at developing deep knowledge on different theoretical perspectives on the field of business and society.
This seminar aims at developing in-depth knowledge on different theoretical perspectives in the field of business and society. Our target audience is students in the joint PhD program interested in topics such as corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, social innovation and the political role of corporations and civil society, and on their own roles as researchers. We introduce this seminar with a historical discussion on the emergence and consolidation of business and society as a field of research in management, and divide classes in three main sections, according to the main unit of analysis under investigation: SECTION 1 - the organization (corporations and new organizational forms); SECTION 2 - the relation (organizations - government - civil society); SECTION 3 - a fourth, reflexive relation: science and the role and responsibility of researchers in action-oriented CSR and sustainability science.

Description
This seminar was conceived to help students to understand qualitative and quantitative research methods and to select the most appropriate for studying the complex situations we found in the international business field.
Its first objective is to present the most important tools and principles mobilized to carry out high quality research. By the end of this course, the students will be able to "read" academic literature in international business, qualitative and quantitative studies included. Its second objective is to allow students that are seeking to carry out a dissertation or a supervised project in international business to build a research project with rigor and confidence. By the end of this course, the students will be able to formulate a research question and to design a research strategy to address it. Most of the knowledge discussed for a dissertation are also important for a supervised project or for those who seek to follow a career as experts or consultants needing to produce high quality reports within their field of expertise.

Description
Knowledge and understanding of research methods in the field of information systems. Developing skills that will enable to critically assess the quality of a research study. Familiarizing with the application of various research methods in the information systems filed.
To attain these objectives, the students will analyze research in information systems in terms of the methods currently used in the field and how well IT researchers are applying these methods. In addition, students will apply this new knowledge throughout the seminar through a variety of methodological exercises and by developing a research proposal on a subject of their choice. Students will be encouraged to share their interpretations of the assigned readings, as well as analyze and critique them constructively. They will be asked to write summary syntheses on different subjects, complete methodological exercises and make presentations to their fellow students. Finally, students will draft a research proposal on a subject of their choice.

Ce cours vise l'acquisition de connaissances approfondies sur le sujet de la responsabilité numérique des organisations : l'analyse de ses enjeux, l'exploration de ses moyens d'action, et l'examen de sa mise en œuvre.
La responsabilité numérique des organisations se situe à l'intersection des impératifs de développement durable et de transformation numérique. Elle couvre un ensemble de pratiques, de politiques, et d'outils permettant aux organisations de structurer et de soutenir leurs efforts d'exploitation des technologies de l'information et de la communication de manière à favoriser une transition numérique durable. Dans ce cours, les étudiantes et étudiants deviendront équipés pour guider leur organisation dans la création d'un environnement numérique favorisant le développement durable sur les plans économique, social, et environnemental, mitigeant les risques et renforçant la confiance des parties prenantes. Dans un premier temps, nous explorerons les fondements et la portée de la responsabilité numérique des organisations en examinant de manière critique les principaux enjeux sociaux, environnementaux, et ceux liés à la gestion des données. This course introduces practical elements of responsible AI development, recognizing the wide range of disciplines that are relevant for ensuring socioenvironmental responsibility and trustworthy development of technology. It is a hands-on, project-based course with practical exercises every week, culminating in a poster presentation and technical report.
Responsible Artificial Intelligence (RAI) is about ensuring that socioenvironmental responsibility is a fundamental and permeating consideration in all stages (conception, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, etc.) of AI development and governance. This is necessary to address and prevent harms and injustices, setting the course of AI development in a direction of sustainable benefit to our interconnected world. RAI requires a thoughtful and pragmatic synthesis of approaches from wide-ranging fields. The goal of this course is to equip students with the qualitative, quantitative, critical, reflective, and practical tools to bridge the gap between theory and practice, in order to make responsible AI a reality.
