Information on Continuing or Suspending a Course
You are continuing the term
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the School has put measures into place regarding grades for Winter term 2020 courses with evaluations scheduled between March 14 and April 30, 2020:
- A failing grade (échec in French) will not be calculated in your GPA.
- Any grade, other than a failing grade, that is lower than your cumulative GPA at the end of Fall term 2019 will automatically appear on May 25 as ES (exigence satisfaite, meaning “requirement satisfied”) on your transcripts* and will not be calculated in your GPA.
- Any grade equal to or higher than your cumulative GPA at the end of Fall term 2019 will automatically appear on May 25 as a letter grade on your transcripts* and will be calculated in your GPA.
- The note AB (abandon, meaning "withdrawal") still will not be calculated in your GPA.
* An attestation of your letter grades for Winter term 2020 will be emailed to you on May 25. When you receive the attestation, you may, if you wish, request to convert an ES back to your initial letter grade or to convert any other grade, except a failing grade, into an ES by completing the form. The deadline to request a grade conversion is June 3, 2020.
The class average will not appear on your transcripts.
SPECIFIC SITUATIONS
If you have started your Winter 2020 program or you are an incoming exchange student at HEC Montréal:
- For undergraduate students, any grade, other than a failing grade (échec in French), below a 2.0 will automatically appear as ES (exigence satisfaite, meaning “requirement satisfied”) on your transcripts * and will not be calculated in your GPA.
- For graduate students, any grade, other than a failing grade (échec in French), below a 2.7 will automatically appear as ES (exigence satisfaite, meaning “requirement satisfied”) on your transcripts * and will not be calculated in your GPA.
For HEC Montréal students taking a course at another institution with authorization to transfer credits (AEHE - autorisation d’études hors établissement):
- The host school will be responsible for converting the letter grade to an ES (exigence satisfaite, meaning “requirement satisfied”) and sending us that information. Please refer to the website of your host school for information on grade conversion measures.
Exceptions for which there are no changes:
- Grades that are not included in GPA calculations, such as for a thesis, dissertation, etc.
- Courses for which the last evaluations were submitted before March 14, 2020.
