Hugues Boisvert shares the origins of Val Saint-Côme

January 8, 2014

HBoisvert_StComeFull Professor Hugues Boisvert (Accounting) recently launched Aux origines de Val Saint-Côme, published by Éditions JFD. The book tells about the origins of the ski centre and recalls the crucial decisions that had to be made during its first seven seasons, along with its ups and downs over the years.

“Val Saint-Côme was born of a dream,” explains Professor Boisvert, the ski centre’s founding President. “None of it would have been possible without the courage, determination and hard work of its founders. It’s been a real boon for the village of Saint-Côme. With the book, I wanted to pay tribute to my parents and friends who joined me in founding the centre. It’s also a good tool for future entrepreneurs, since over the years the centre has seen situations that are rarely addressed in university business courses.”

Professor Boisvert, FCPA, FCMA, has a PhD in Engineering Economic Systems and a Master’s in Operations Research from Stanford University, in California, and an undergraduate degree in commerce (Management Sciences) from HEC Montréal. He has been with the School since June 1976. He took one year off in 1985 to launch Les Entreprises M.B.H. inc. and the Val Saint-Côme ski centre. He is the Director of the CPA International Centre in Management Control. His specialties are accounting by activities, management controls, management by activities and benchmarking. He has written several publications and is very active professionally, in particular with the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada).
