From the HEC Montréal Panel to the Découverte show … Tech3Lab research on treadmill desks leads to bigger things!

September 24, 2014

When 20 students signed up for the HEC Montréal Panel last year, they had no idea that their research findings would end up on the Ici Radio-Canada Découverte show on September 28!

The HEC Montréal Panel, founded in 2012, is a recruitment tool for researchers and master’s students conducting research projects. The Panel consists of an internal database of students at all levels and from all programs who have volunteered to take part in studies conducted by HEC Montréal researchers.

This community of university research subjects is used regularly by Tech3Lab at HEC Montréal, an advanced management research laboratory specializing in studying the interactions between organizations’ technological interfaces and their employees or consumers. In September 2013, Tech3Lab researchers turned to the Panel for volunteers for their research on the short-term effects of a treadmill desk* on users’ memory and attention. Some of the participants in the study sat and others walked while they read a text and checked their e-mail. Then they were all tested on their attention and memory.

So does walking on a treadmill while you work help you learn and retain more? You can find out by watching the September 28 episode of Découverte, on ICI Radio-Canada.

You, too, can take part in research projects by HEC Montréal professors!

Would you like to take part in other research projects by professors at the School? Sign up now for the HEC Montréal Panel and you can make a real contribution to research. You can join in as many studies as you wish, depending on your availability and interests, and many of them offer financial compensation.
