Outstanding HEC Montréal victory at the 25th Jeux du commerce

January 7, 2013

The HEC Montréal delegation of 84 BBA students took first place overall at the 25th Jeux du commerce, held at the School from January 4 to 6, and earned the Patrice Bourbonnais trophy. The award is named for the HEC Montréal graduate who launched the games, in 1989, and has been presented to the top university every year since 2003.

The School’s delegation, which was coached by the HEC Montréal Competitions Committee and guest professor René Gendreau (Marketing), placed highly in several events. In addition to taking gold for rugby, silver for participation and bronze for the social component, the HEC Montréal delegation made it to the podium for no fewer than seven other events in the academic competitions. The taxation and international business teams, in particular, turned in first-place performances. Their colleagues in strategy, finance and human resources took second place in their disciplines. Lastly, the entrepreneurship and marketing teams also did very well, earning third-place finishes in their categories. With this kind of results, it was no surprise that the School’s delegation won the Desjardins Academic Cup.

The Jeux du commerce bring together nearly 1,200 BBA students from 13 eastern Canadian universities and pit them against one another in academic, sports and social competitions. The goal is to encourage closer relations among these future business and corporate leaders, create lasting bonds among the participants, develop their initiative and foster healthy competition and, above all, excellence.
