Financial accounting: a practical guide by Professor Yves Bozec

June 27, 2013

YBozec_book_coverAssociate Professor Yves Bozec (Accounting) launched a new book this spring: Regroupements d’entreprises et consolidation des états financiers, un guide pratique, published by Publica.

The advanced financial accounting textbook covers accounting for business combinations, transactions generally referred to as mergers, acquisitions and takeovers. The author focuses particularly on the acquisition of equity interests. The main purpose of the textbook is to explain the process of consolidating financial statements, which can be summarized as adding up the assets, liabilities, revenue and expenses of the parent company and subsidiaries, after eliminating and adjusting certain accounts.

“Consolidating financial statements is a complex subject, one that unfortunately is too often approached in a confused fashion,” emphasizes Professor Bozec. “This book is intended as a practical guide, concise but complete, that will allow students to grasp the concepts involved in consolidating financial statements.”

A member of the School’s faculty since 2004, Yves Bozec, CPA, CMA, holds a PhD in Administration from HEC Montréal and an MSc in Accounting from UQAM. He specializes in financial and management accounting, corporate governance, performance measurement and privatization.
