Specialized Graduate Diploma in Marketing Communication: final-year students win awards

October 16, 2012

At the reception to welcome the 13th cohort of students in the Specialized Graduate Diploma in Marketing Communication (D.E.S.S.C.M.) program, on October 12, at HEC Montréal, the Merit Award from the Association of Quebec Advertising Agencies (AAPQ) and the scholarship from the Fonds d'initiative d'étude et de recherche avancées en communication marketing were presented to Sophie Daoust and Annie Garneau.

The 11th annual AAPQ Merit Award went to the final-year student with the highest GPA over the two years of the D.E.S.S.C.M. program. The 2011-2012 winner, Sophie Daoust (Creativity Advisor, Cogeco Diffusion), received a cash prize of $6,000, which will allow her to attend the 60th edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, from June 16 to 22, 2013. The two runners-up were Isabelle Bilodeau (Associate Manager, Product Marketing, Telephony and Complete Connection, Cogeco Cable) and Laure de La Moussaye (Strategic Planner, orangetango).

Annie Garneau (Advisor, Cossette) was the first-ever recipient of the scholarship from the Fonds d'initiative d'étude et de recherche avancées en communication marketing. The objective of the $2,500 scholarship is to allow a student to attend the Montréal-Barcelona Summer School on Management of Creativity, organized by the MosaiC group at HEC Montréal. The goal of the initiative is to strengthen approaches revolving around the expression and management of creativity within the program. To be eligible, students must complete a course-project related to the summer school.

For Pierre Balloffet, Academic Supervisor for the D.E.S.S.C.M. and the founder of the award: “It allows us to clearly highlight the driving role of creativity in devising new marketing communication approaches that not only create commercial value but also speak to social, environmental or cultural concerns.”

The D.E.S.S.C.M., the result of close collaboration between HEC Montréal and the AAPQ, was launched in 2000 to train the next generation of world-class communications and marketing experts. The one-of-a-kind program is intended mainly for professionals with three to five years’ experience, allowing them to benefit from the knowledge, skills and strategic vision of the career professors and industry professionals involved.
