A new certificate in information and systems security analysis

January 24, 2012

HEC Montréal will be introducing a new and innovative program unique in Quebec, a certificate in information and systems security analysis,* starting in the fall 2012 term. Given the growing importance of information security, the certificate certainly comes at the right time.

Valued expertise

Information theft and corruption can be fatal for today’s companies and organizations. The ability to anticipate and properly respond to and protect against computer piracy attacks and any possible loss of data is a crucial strategic consideration for any organization. Information security is not limited to computer systems, in fact, nor to digital or electronic information. To the contrary, it applies to all aspects of keeping data and information in any form safe, guaranteeing its integrity and protecting it.

This is why it is important to train skilled analysts who can contribute to ensuring the security of a company’s information and systems. After thoroughly analyzing the field and other training offered elsewhere in North America and holding discussions with professionals in this area, HEC Montréal has now created a new program that meets this growing need.

“University programs in this field are quite recent, and are always associated with traditional technical fields like mathematics, engineering and computer science,” explains Jean-Pierre Béchard, Director of Certificate Programs. “In Quebec, there has not been much for students interested in information security.”

This new certificate offered by HEC Montréal will equip students to:

The program includes a preparatory workshop for students wishing to earn the title of Certified Information Security Systems Professional (CISSP®), an international and commercially independent professional certification in information and systems security.
