HEC Montréal Takes Second Place in the Excalibur Tournament

March 23, 2011

The HEC Montréal team took second place in the Excalibur Tournament, a high-level Canadian interuniversity human resources competition. The team, consisting of BBA students Laura Hérat, Jonathan Couture and Thomas Michenau, turned in a brilliant performance at the 25th edition of the tournament, held in Montreal on March 18 and 19. The competition was organized by the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (CRHA) and sponsored by the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCARH).

In preparing for the tournament, the three students were coached by Gaetane Hains, Full-time Lecturer with the Department of Human Resources Management. “Our three students showed great vision and pooled their strengths in coming up with a relevant solution to the case study. I’m proud of their performance and I’m not in the least surprised at their success, given how hard they worked to prepare for this tournament. I also want to thank Anne Bourhis, Director of the Human Resources Management Department, for her support throughout this wonderful experience,” said Ms. Hains.

The three students will share a total prize of $2,250 in recognition of their second-place finish.

“We are very pleased at what we achieved. Our teamwork and our ability to combine our ideas help us in our analysis and let us come up with innovative ideas that met the requirements of the case study,” pointed out Jonathan Couture.

This Canada-wide competition is an excellent opportunity for participants to show off their know-how to businesspeople and HR professionals. HEC Montréal teams are used to doing well in the Tournament, in fact, since this is the third time they have stood on the podium in five years, taking first place in 2007 and 2009!
