HEC Montréal congratulates its 474 new Master’s graduates, who earned an MBA, an MSc in Electronic Commerce, a Master of Laws, taxation option, or an MSc in Administration. Nearly 260 of them proudly gathered in the Ernest Cormier Amphitheatre at the Université de Montréal for the convocation ceremony on September 5. In fact, 2008 was the 40th anniversary of the MBA program, which this year had 75 MBA in Action graduates, 72 in the Intensive MBA in French, and 110 in the Intensive MBA in English.

François Bellavance, MSc and PhD Programs Director, announced the winner of the 2008 Award for the Best Master's Thesis: Sophie McCormack, Finance option. Hers was deemed the best of the 12 theses chosen as finalists from all the MSc in Administration program options. This year the program had 187 new graduates. Martin Boyer, Director of the Department of Finance, directed Sophie’s research for her thesis entitled Les coûts de réorganisation comme déterminant de l'utilisation corporative de produits de couverture : une étude empirique.

The School also publicly announced the winner of the 2007 Grand Prize for Teaching Excellence, Alain Gosselin, Full Professor with the Department of Human Resources Management. The award recognizes the quality of teaching and support for students throughout Professor Gosselin’s 25-year career at HEC Montréal. Aside from his teaching skills, the award also salutes his personal dealings with students, as borne out by the many glowing comments in his evaluations by students.
