2. Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)


You must obtain a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) before you apply for a study permit. Apply as soon as you receive your admission letter.


You can apply online or with a paper application:

  • Indicate the right university degree as noted in your admission letter
  • Consult the university calendar to know your start and end date for your program. The duration of your program is listed on your admission letter.
    • For fall semester 2019
      • Master program: August 1st 2019 to August 31st 2021
      • D.E.S.: August 1st 2019 to August 31st 2020
      • Ph.D.: August 1st 2019 to August 31st 2023
  • Tuition fee details are listed on the reverse side of your admission letter


Once the online application is completed, you will receive a personalized checklist:

  • Send the required documents by certified mail
  • Keep a copy of all documents


You will receive two copies of your CAQ by mail:

  • The first is for your study permit application
  • The second is needed for the Canadian border as well as the Registrar during new student orientation
