Registering at RAMQ (only for students benefiting from a bilateral social security agreement)
(1STTIME OR RENEWAL)

RAMQ registration at your arrival

To get your health care file in order with the RAMQ and HEC Montréal, you must take the following three steps:

  1. During your orientation day or when you arrive, the Registrar will give you the following documents:
    • Proof of full-time studies
    • The RAMQ form to complete the instructions to obtain your RAMQ card.
  2. Go to the RAMQ:

Between August 15th and September 30th Outside of these dates

    425, boul. de Maisonneuve Ouest
    4th floor, suite 401
Place-des-Arts metro (exit De Bleury Nord)
    or McGill metro (exit Union)

    425, boul. de Maisonneuve Ouest
    3rd floor
Place-des-Arts metro (exit De Bleury Nord)
    or McGill metro (exit Union)

You have to go to the RAMQ to obtain your “attestation of registrations to RAMQ.” This is a temporary document which will prove that you are registered at the RAMQ. Keep a copy in a safe place!
We suggest that you go to the RAMQ early in the morning and have original documents with you. You also need an address in Montreal to receive your health insurance card and original documents by mail. Please take note that your original documents will not be sent at the same time as your card.

  3. Present the proof of eligibility (“attestation of registrations to RAMQ”) at the Admissions service of the Office of the Registrar (Decelles building, 5.120) before the deadline. Please consult the academic calendars here.

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WHO HAVE FINISHED THEIR STUDIES AND HAVE A POST-GRADUATION WORK PERMIT:

You can be insured by the RAMQ for the entire duration of your post-graduation work permit.

Once you receive your permit, you must go in person to the RAMQ with your passport and the permit.

A three-month waiting period may be required between the time when you apply for the RAMQ and the moment when you will actually be insured if you haven’t been insured by the RAMQ in the 45 days prior to the beginning of the post-graduation work permit. Make sure you have medical coverage for the months that you will not be insured by RAMQ
