Founder and President & CEO, CG&CO

Charles Guay is the Founder and President and CEO of CG&CO, a firm specializing in strategic consulting and corporate governance. He was President and CEO of Standard Life Canada between 2012 and 2015. He played a key role in the sale of the company to Manulife in February 2015, a transaction valued at $4 billion. He remained at Manulife until September 2016, as Executive Vice-President and General Manager, Institutional Markets, of Manulife Canada and President and Chief Executive Officer of Manuvie Québec. In this capacity, he oversaw pension and group insurance operations for Canada and was instrumental in the integration of the two firms, setting up Manulife’s first strategy for Quebec in order to drive province-wide growth and better accommodate clients’ needs.

Mr. Guay’s extensive background in the financial services industry comprises several management-level positions at National Bank of Canada, including President of National Bank Securities from 2001 to 2011. Prior to this, he served as District Vice President of Fidelity Investments and an investment advisor at RBC Dominion Securities.

He has received a number of honours, among them a Hermès career achievement award from Université Laval in 2012. He was also named to Canada’s Top 40 under 40 in 2005 and Quebec’s Top 25 financial industry players on multiple occasions, from 2005 onward.

Mr. Guay has served his industry and community through a number of board appointments. Current directorships include Pomerleau and the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation. He also sits on the advisory committees of Cossette and Executive Education HEC Montréal. He has been involved in numerous fundraising campaigns over the years to benefit Université Laval, Centraide, Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, CHU Sainte-Justine, Procure, Héritage Montréal and other worthy causes.
