French Week

March 22 to 26, 2021

Reading, writing, literature… Words are a wonderful way to travel and escape the current state of the world. The CFLA encourages you to take part in this year’s French Week, which will be 100% online and 100% powered by the joy of words!

THE WEEK’S ACTIVITIES

TAKING SOME TIME TO READ WILL RELEASE YOUR MIND FROM LOCKDOWN!

Until March 26

Have you read a great book in French during the pandemic? Write a message or record a video telling the HEC community why they should read it too! Post about it on the Prendre le temps de lire wall and enter to win a participation prize.

TEACHER TALK LUNCHEON: HOW TO STRIKE A BALANCE BETWEEN LANGUAGE QUALITY, WRITING SKILLS AND MANAGEMENT STUDIES

Monday, March 22, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Open to all faculty

As the School prepares to launch the Techniques de rédaction (writing techniques) website, the CFLA invites you to the Teacher Talk Luncheon to discuss the quality of French and writing skills in academic papers. What are the main challenges your students face in French and in their writing assignments? What resources do you provide them to meet those challenges? Join the conversation to learn about tools that work for improving the quality of French in your course activities.

CREATIVE COMPETITION: CREATE A SLOGAN FOR A MYSTERY BUSINESS!

Tuesday, March 23, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Open to all community members

Do you have a way with words and enjoy a challenge? A business needs your help! Join this event to help create a slogan for a mystery business. The business will tell you about its products and present its top pick. Marketing professor Jonathan Deschênes will teach you the characteristics of a winning slogan. The winning team members will receive a gift card to the HEC Montréal COOP.

COLLABORATIVE DICTATION: A DEEP DIVE INTO LANGUAGE AND HISTORY

Wednesday, March 24, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Open to all community members

Team up with other participants to write the perfect dictation!

The text will be an excerpt from a publication by Quebec writer Biz and read by his father, Jean-Yves Fréchette, who is a writer himself and has an active Twitter presence.

Participants will be entered in a drawing to win a gift card to the HEC Montréal COOP.
